First Congregational Church was founded on May 22, 1822, making it the oldest continuing worshipping community in Ravenna. We're now in our third building, erected in 1927.
But the church is not the building. It's not even the Pastors. The church is the people and their dedication to worship God and to work for God's reign of justice and peace.
To that end, members of this congregation have been active and instrumental in the founding of the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity and bringing water & sewer services to the McElrath housing allotments. We continue to participate in the "Loaves and Fishes" program to feed the hungry. And we are committed to welcoming all people regardless of their race, nationality, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
The UCC is a church of firsts, a church of extravagant welcome, and a church where "…they may all be one" (John 17:21).
The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church to join faith and action. With over 5,000 churches and nearly one million members across the U.S., the UCC serves God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world.
Since 1957, the United Church of Christ has been the church of firsts, weaving God’s message of hope and extravagant welcome with action for justice and peace. Together, we live out our faith in ways that effect change in our communities.
Tune in for all the latest and great happenings, new, and devotionals from the United Church of Chrit!
